The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom, aimed at making passport enrolment and processing more accessible to Nigerians living across the UK.

According to an official announcement dated 9 August 2026, the intervention follows a directive from the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for a dedicated Passport Intervention Team from the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters to be deployed to the United Kingdom.

The team is scheduled to arrive in the UK from 10 August 2026 and will work in collaboration with the Nigeria High Commission.

What Is the Nigeria Passport Intervention Exercise?

The passport intervention is intended to support Nigerians in the UK who need assistance with passport applications and processing. Rather than limiting the exercise to one location, the Nigeria Immigration Service states that the intervention team will visit designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing.

This could make passport services more accessible to eligible Nigerians living outside London.

Who Can Take Part?

According to the official announcement, the intervention is open to:

Applicants with pending Nigerian passport applications
People making a new Nigerian passport application
Existing Nigerian passport holders applying for renewal
Passport holders with less than one year remaining before expiry who wish to renew

Applicants are expected to have completed the appropriate passport application process and should be prepared to present their completed application form and proof of payment during enrolment.

Are Normal Nigerian Passport Services Still Operating?

Yes. The Nigeria Immigration Service has confirmed that its existing digital passport application channels will remain operational during the intervention, including the Contactless Passport Application System.

Home delivery services also remain available to eligible applicants. The intervention therefore supplements existing passport services rather than replacing them.
